BIG MUTTS NEED HOMES

With the continuing influx of large dogs, Charleston Animal Society remains overcapacity, limiting our ability to help additional animals in need. In response, Charleston Animal Society is waiving all dog adoption fees. For this lifesaving plan to succeed, Charleston Animal Society needs the community’s help to empty our shelter of 50 large dogs between Wednesday, April 5th and Monday, April 19th by adopting one of our Big Mutts.

Celebrity Paws in the Park Walk for Animals Takes Place June 10th

Who will you walk for? That’s the question as thousands of people and their “best friends” gear up for Celebrity Paws in the Park presented by Crews Subaru on June 10th at Riverfront Park in North Charleston.

Charleston Animal Society broke the GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS title for most pledges received for a pet vaccination campaign in 24 hours, while also setting numerous South Carolina records for animals.

HISTORIC SUMMIT TO ADDRESS STATEWIDE ANIMAL CRISIS

More than 40 state and national animal welfare organizations are gathering in Columbia for the first-ever No Kill South Carolina 2024 (NKSC 2024) State Summit.  The “Sprint to the Finish” theme will focus on finding every healthy, treatable and adoptable animal a home, with the goal of making the Palmetto State the first No Kill State across the southern U.S., from Atlantic to Pacific, and across America’s Heartland.

Betty the Bulldog Abandoned

Thursday, December 22nd, just before Christmas, someone abandoned a dog at our gate that was suffering from an injury. She was left tied to a tree in a cardboard box with a life-threatening injury. When our surgical team found her at 7:30 am she needed immediate medical attention. If not for our team’s expertise and care she could have perished. She still has a long road to recovery and is being treated by our team.

Cat Who Swallowed 38 Hair Ties

While Juliet isn’t out of the woods yet, her health is on the upswing after the removal of 38 hair ties the cat somehow swallowed. “Juliet is in fair condition, but she is being fed very carefully at this time with a feeding tube,” said Charleston Animal Society Associate Director of Veterinary Care Leigh Jamison, DVM. “This blockage has caused a liver condition that we are watching closely.”

BITTER FREEZE THREATENS ANIMALS

Charleston Animal Society is teaming up with Hendrick Automotive Group to get every animal in the shelter “Home for the Holidays.” On Saturday, December 17th, Charleston Animal Society will kick-off the event with fee-waived adoptions, hot cocoa and snacks for visitors, plus pet pictures with Santa (available 10am – 2pm)!

On Giving Tuesday this month, the philanthropic BOBS from Skechers™ collection from The Comfort Technology Company™ and national nonprofit Petco Love announced an initiative supporting hardworking employees at animal welfare organizations nationwide who put their best foot forward for pets in need.
