Oxbow Animal Health Promotes “Other Animal” Adoptions

The “Happy Hutch” adoption enclosure is open for business. The new lifesaving adoption housing features specially designed viewing enclosures. Its dynamic, ventilated, and well-lit space can house up to 8 sweet animals such as rabbits, ferrets, chinchillas, Guinea Pigs, hamsters, and rats thanks to an Oxbow Animal Health capital grant.

COLLETON COUNTY ANIMAL SHELTER SITUATION IS “DIRE”

Colleton County Animal Shelter is bursting at the seams with dogs and needs the public’s help. “We have seen at least 15 litters of puppies come in during the past two months,” said Shelter Director Laura Clark. “We have not had to euthanize an animal for space in the past four years and we want to keep it that way. This is why we need the public to come give one of these dogs a second chance at happiness.”

$5,000 REWARD OFFERED FOR INFORMATION INVOLVING SUSPECTED DROWNING OF RABBITS

Two pet black rabbits were discovered dead in a cage at low tide on April 28th, at Pierpont Boat Landing located at 94 Cedar Lane in West Ashley. The City of Charleston Police Department is currently seeking information on the owner of the rabbits and any details related to their death.

Charleston Animal Society unveiled its sixth annual lifesaving car raffle on New Year’s Day! This year, one lucky winner will receive a 2024 Lexus TX 500h F Sport Luxury Vehicle.  All proceeds go to the animals thanks to Hank and Laurel Greer who have purchased the Lexus for the raffle.

Shelter Dogs Take Over Prom Season

Prom Season is here and our dogs would like a chance to go with you to the big dance! Often, shelter dogs can be overlooked, so some of our favorite pups put on their prom dresses and tuxedos, and readied themselves for their close-ups! Jeanne Taylor of Jeanne Taylor Photography donated her time and talents to make sure each dog got their chance to shine!

OPERATION DOG RESCUE

Berkeley Animal Center and Charleston Animal Society are coming together for a joint adoption campaign to save the lives of healthy dogs who are in desperate need of loving homes. “The goal of Operation Dog Rescue is to help empty the animal shelters in Berkeley and Charleston that are currently over capacity,” said No Kill South Carolina 2024 Chief Project Officer Abigail Appleton, PMP, CAWA. “At Berkeley County, animals are being placed in temporary crates.”

No Kill South Carolina 2024 is proud to announce its participation in the Florence Area Community Cat Project. Charleston Animal Society’s Simon Greer Mobile Spay-Neuter Clinic will be at Florence County Environmental Services to officially launch this much-needed initiative.

Two miniature pet pigs were brutally shot at their home on Wadmalaw Island April 3rd, leaving one of the pet pigs dead. Alfie and Petunia were indoor-outdoor pigs who spent time cuddling on their owner’s couch with her.

BIG MUTTS NEED HOMES

With the continuing influx of large dogs, Charleston Animal Society remains overcapacity, limiting our ability to help additional animals in need. In response, Charleston Animal Society is waiving all dog adoption fees. For this lifesaving plan to succeed, Charleston Animal Society needs the community’s help to empty our shelter of 50 large dogs between Wednesday, April 5th and Monday, April 19th by adopting one of our Big Mutts.
