149th Celebration of Lifesaving Success

Charleston Animal Society’s 149th Celebration of Lifesaving Success took place Thursday, September 7, 2023 at Hotel Indigo in Mount Pleasant. Highlights included special awards, a look back at how Charleston Animal Society led the way to Charleston County becoming the first No Kill Community in the Southeast 10 years ago. President and CEO Joe Elmore also gave a state of the organization address, which included an update on the planned campus expansion.

Labor Day Weekend Adoption Specials!

We hope you enjoy time with your family as summer begins to wind down with the Labor Day Weekend! Charleston Animal Society will not be open on Monday, September 3rd in observance of the holiday. CRBJ Reader Rankings Awards

The Charleston Regional Business Journal is hosting their 2023 Reader Rankings Awards, and Charleston Animal Society has been honored to be nominated in the running for Best-Non Profit! Voting is easy and will run Tuesday, August 15 to Friday, September 29.

21-YEAR-OLD EMACIATED HORSE RESCUED IN RAVENEL

 A 21-year-old emaciated horse is recovering after being rescued August 9th. A Charleston County Sheriff’s Deputy was dispatched to a property on Jacksonboro, Rd. in Ravenel, after an eyewitness called to report concerns about the horse’s condition.

Voting Opens for 2023 Rescue Brew

You can now vote for your favorite dog or cat in the  Fourth Annual Rescue Brew Beer Spokesdog and Spokescat star search! Winners will appear on the labels of the “2023 Rescue Brew Beer” from Palmetto Brewing Company. 541 Pet owners entered their dogs or cats at CharlestonAnimalSociety.org/RescueBrew and voting continues until September 15th.

31 Days to End Cruelty Activates this August!

Cruelty has spiraled out of control to the point Charleston Animal Society is dedicating the entire month of August to the cause. You can join the “31 Days to End Cruelty” campaign by making a gift and having your donation double.

PickMe! SC REACHES 10,000 ADOPTIONS

Pick Me! SC reached a benchmark with adoption #10,0000 during its 2023 effort. “This is our sixth statewide adoption campaign and cumulatively, we have now adopted 10,000 animals across South Carolina,” Chief Project Officer of No Kill South Carolina 2024, Abigail Appleton, PMP, CAWA. “To reach this milestone is a testament to the teamwork that we are seeing across shelters, rescues and Petco Pet Care Centers to make South Carolina a great place for pets to live.”

Charleston Animal Society Issues Heat Emergency Warning

Charleston Animal Society is issuing a heat alert for all companion and working animals.  This week the National Weather Service has issued a heat advisory for the Lowcountry, due to temperatures climbing up near 100 degrees. According to the University of Kentucky, heat stress will reach the EMERGENCY level during daytime hours throughout this week.
