A dog and cat have been found shot in North Charleston within the past week. On May 12th a cat shot with pellets was found on the 7400 block of Tedder Street. Just five days earlier, a puppy was found with a gunshot wound to his paw on the 5200 block of Rivers Avenue.
Charleston Animal Society unveiled its sixth annual lifesaving car raffle on New Year’s Day! This year, one lucky winner will receive a 2024 Lexus TX 500h F Sport Luxury Vehicle. All proceeds go to the animals thanks to Hank and Laurel Greer who have purchased the Lexus for the raffle.
As shelters across the country face overcrowding, BISSELL Pet Foundation is aiming to “Empty the Shelters” by sponsoring reduced adoption fees from May 2-8. This event will be hosted in more than 275 shelters in 40 states, including Charleston Animal Society.
Charleston Animal Society and the Charleston County Sheriff’s Office is leading the rescue. Dozens of dogs were being kept outside and inside a residence that was set up as a dog rescue operation. According to the Sheriff’s Department, the homeowner had been hospitalized and was unable to care for the dogs.

Celebrity Cat Expert Jackson Galaxy joined Charleston Animal Society in the dedication ceremony for the Maria Panella Cat Enrichment Garden Wednesday morning. This enrichment garden was installed to honor a marvelous volunteer and donor who was particularly involved with cats. Our animal care staff, including our behavior specialists, will now have additional tools specifically to help our resident cats!
