Animal Foster Coordinator

Pay: $15.00 per hour

Job description:

Shift: Friday, Saturday, Sunday, Monday

Job Purpose:

To help increase the live release numbers in 2 ways – first by working with rescue organizations that can rehabilitate, treat, or socialize animals and second is working to find foster homes for the animals that may be too young for spay/neuter, need to gain weight, or going through medical treatments.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Identify animals for placement in foster homes or rescue groups.
  • Contact rescue groups to coordinate pick-up of animals.
  • Contact foster homes and caregivers to coordinate pick-up of animals.
  • Ensure animals are up to date on all medical procedures.
  • Ensure animals are scheduled for spay-neuter surgery.
  • Maintain schedule of re-checks/spay-neuter surgeries on Full Slate calendar.
  • Schedule and arrange transportation animals to outside vet appointments.
  • Prepare and maintain foster documentation.
  • Recruit, orient, and qualify foster homes.
  • Search, qualify, and confirm rescue.
  • Monitor foster homes on an ongoing basis.
  • Educate foster homes on appropriate animal care and handling of foster animals.
  • Complete foster paperwork, maintain/update PetPoint database, and prepare reports.
  • Photograph rescue and foster animals to place on internet posts and email inquiries.
  • Formulate creative descriptions of animals to coincide with photographs.
  • Maintain and answer emails, telephone voicemails, and text message.
  • Receive, handle, and kennel all species, including those of unknown temperament and aggressive, sick, and injured animals.
  • Coordinate the return of foster animals to the shelter.
  • Attend training classes.
  • Educate the public by providing information about Charleston Animal Society and the foster program.
  • Provide excellent customer service.
  • Maintain after-hours emergency phone and respond to issues.
  • Schedule and orient Paws Around Town participants.
  • Maintain Paws Around Town field trip / sleepover equipment.
  • Maintain foster supplies and equipment including but not limited to food, carriers / crates, and medical supplies.
  • Maintain and moderate Facebook Closed Group for foster homes.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Valid SC Driver’s License
  • Prior experience working with animals – bonus
  • Skill and ability in animal handling, care, and maintenance.
  • Advanced data entry skills
  • Advanced communication skills, written and verbal
  • High organizational skills
  • Physical job, walking, standing, lifting 50lbs
  • Day shift – Friday, Saturday, Sunday, Monday (8 am – 6 pm – over as needed)
