Charleston Animal Society Waives Adoption Fees on Adult Dogs and Cats

Summer is the most difficult time of all for homeless animals and Charleston Animal Society is filled beyond capacity with dogs and cats in need of loving homes.  In an effort to place as many animals as possible into new homes, now through Sunday, all fees to adopt adult dogs and cats have been waived at the organization’s North Charleston pet adoption center, 2455 Remount Road, North Charleston, SC 29406.  The animal shelter is open for adoptions 12:00 Noon to 5:00 PM weekdays and 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM on weekends.  All animals available for adoption can be viewed at www.CharlestonAnimalSoceity.org/Adopt.

“We are turning to the community to ask for help,” says Aldwin Roman, CAWA, Vice President of Operations at Charleston Animal Society.  “Our animal shelter is in crisis overflowing with homeless animals and we are asking the public to open their hearts and homes to make room for one more pet.”  Every animal adopted from Charleston Animal Society has been examined by a veterinarian, spayed or neutered, updated on needed vaccinations.  Plus, every animal adopted goes home with a free supply of Hill’s Science Diet dog or cat food.

“For 7 years now, the Charleston community has saved every healthy and treatable animal and found them a home. That was the commitment Charleston Animal Society made after drawing the line in the sand in 2013. Now, more than ever, this commitment is being tested and we need the community to step up,” continued Roman.  “We seldom turn to the public with desperate pleas for help to adopt animals, but right now is one of those times.”

The process to adopt a new family member is easy.  After meeting a dog or cat in person, a potential adopter is asked a few survey questions so the adoption counselor can help make the best match.  After discussing specific needs for a particular animal, and adoption contract is completed.  The process takes about 20 to 30 minutes.
