About the Role

Under the guidance of our Chief Veterinary Officer and Lead Veterinary Technician, the Veterinary Surgical Technician provides essential support throughout surgical and anesthetic procedures while helping maintain a clean, organized, and safe clinical environment.

This is a hands-on role for someone who is comfortable working with a high volume of animals, understands the importance of compassionate patient care, and can remain focused and professional in a fast-paced veterinary setting.

Key Responsibilities

  • Adhere to the highest ethical standards and provisions of animal care in a safe, competent, professional, and humane manner at all times.
  • Triage all patients and report concerns to the veterinary technician or attending veterinarian.
  • Restrain patients during anesthesia induction and intubation.
  • Monitor all patients receiving gas anesthesia.
  • Prepare patients for surgery as instructed.
  • Transport patients from the prep room to the operating room.
  • Assist veterinarians during surgical procedures as needed.
  • Keep supervisors informed of animal behavior, health, or other concerns.
  • Monitor patients throughout recovery.
  • Assist transport drivers with handling and unloading transport animals.
  • Provide information to owners and communicate professionally with customers.
  • Provide excellent patient care.
  • Perform daily cleaning of kennels, cages, bathrooms, and public areas.
  • Stock the prep room and operating room.
  • Wash and sterilize surgical packs throughout the day.
  • Clean the prep room, exam room, and surgical rooms at the end of each day.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Valid South Carolina Driver’s License and excellent driving record required.
  • Prior experience working with animals in a medical setting.
  • Understanding of basic veterinary medical concepts, including vaccine protocols and anesthetic risks.
  • Ability to communicate medical information to owners.
  • Physical ability to handle an average of 100 animals per day.
  • Ability to learn and recognize characteristics of animal behavior.
  • Compassion and understanding of animals.
  • Ability to provide excellent customer service.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to clean continuously.

Additional Information

Physical Requirements Walking, standing, and moving animals and equipment, including the ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
Physical Activity Must be able to bend and kneel repeatedly.
Standing Requirement Ability to stand for a minimum of eight to ten hours per day.
Schedule Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Some Saturdays and/or holidays may be required.
Employment Requirements Must pass a pre-employment drug screen and background check.
LVT Status Licensed Veterinary Technician certification is preferred, but not required.
