Book Buddies

Calling all readers!  The shelter environment can be very scary and stressful for our animals.  Between the constant flow of new faces, smells, and noises, they could really use a break from all of the commotion.  That’s where you come in!

Our Book Buddies volunteer program provides a much-needed quiet interaction for our dogs, giving them time to relax and enjoy a story (they love looking at the pictures)!  Animals also make the best judgment-free audience to readers still mastering their skills. Readers of all levels are welcome!

  • Duration: 30 minutes
  • Availability: Monday-Friday, 12:00-2:30 pm
  • Ages: 5+
  • Cost: $5 per session (reading only) OR $20 (plus book & stuffed animal)
  • Each child MUST be accompanied by a parent or guardian for the duration of the visit.  Both the participant and chaperone are required to watch our orientation video prior to their visit.
