10 Florida Dogs Transported Out of Hurricane Elsa’s Path
Yesterday, we received a call from one of our partner shelters that was directly in the path of incoming Hurricane Elsa. The Suwannee County Animal Shelter in McAlpin, Florida had several dogs in outdoor areas and they were concerned that those dogs would be in harm’s way with imminent heavy rainfall, high winds and possible floods.
Transporting Ten Dogs
Just hours before Elsa would make landfall on the Florida coast, two members of our team left to rescue ten dogs from the shelter in Suwanee. They left Charleston yesterday around 2:00PM and arrived at the shelter just ahead of the storm around 8:30pm. With the ten dogs safely in a transport van, our team members made a quick turn around back to Charleston, arriving around 3:00AM this morning.
The 740-mile, 12-hour round trip guaranteed the safety of ten dogs that may have otherwise been in a dangerous situation. We are thankful for the opportunity to help a partner shelter and we are bracing for more transports with the main part of hurricane season ahead.
