A New Day for Lou: Abandonment to Recovery

Charleston Animal Society is offering a $500 reward for information in the case of a dog with a gaping wound, who was left tied to a pole on Rivers Avenue in North Charleston this week. The alleged abandonment incident is being investigated by North Charleston Animal Control. Because of his injuries, investigators also want to know if veterinary care was intentionally withheld from the dog.

On March 1st, a North Charleston Animal Control Officer found “Lou” near the intersection of River’s Avenue and Carver Avenue with an open wound on his shoulder and several puncture wounds all over his body.

The Animal Control Officer immediately transported Lou to Charleston Animal Society. Our American Animal Hospital Association (AAHA) accredited veterinary team quickly got to work assessing the dog’s medical needs. While sedated, his wounds were carefully cleaned and bandaged and he received antibiotics, painkillers and vaccinations. Lou is on the road to recovery and will need some time to heal with the love and care from our compassionate team.
