Oxbow Animal Health Promotes “Other Animal” Adoptions

Friday | May 26, 2023 | Charleston Animal Society’s adoption lobby has an exciting new addition.

The “Happy Hutch” adoption enclosure is open for business. The new lifesaving adoption housing features specially designed viewing enclosures. Its dynamic, ventilated, and well-lit space can house up to 8 sweet animals such as rabbits, ferrets, chinchillas, Guinea Pigs, hamsters, and rats thanks to an Oxbow Animal Health capital grant.

Each year, the Animal Society takes in and cares for upwards of 150 “other animals”.

On any given day, animal control, citizens, or law enforcement come to our shelter doors seeking help for a variety of animals.
Rabbits, Guinea Pigs, and other small pet rodents are fearful animals prone to stress.

The Oxbow Animal Health Happy Hutch helps to alleviate this by creating the most humane method of housing and offering the adopting public a peek at a new family member to consider. The specific area chosen to create the Happy Hutch indoor adoption enclosure will reduce traffic and noise from dog and cat adoptions while giving the public access to the rabbits for the purpose of adoption.

Stop by and say hello!
