Explorer’s Club
Volunteer programs are what we believe to be one of the most effective ways we can achieve our mission at Charleston Animal Society. These programs offer a multitude of benefits, including:
- Gain animal knowledge
- Build relationships with peers
- Increase comfort around animals
- Enhance leadership skills and confidence-building
- Plus, it provides career exploration opportunities!!
With an ever-increasing demand for service learning and career exploration opportunities, we have decided to break decades of programming into bite-sized volunteer opportunities for children.
Explorer Club Details:
Participants can take any career-focused course within their age group. Our catalog of options has been broken into four areas of interest. The activities for each session will be related to the selected field to allow for practical application and to provide an immersive experience. Class sizes are typically smaller for this reason. Session length may also vary depending on the topic. Here’s the best part, all sessions will include animal time!
Missed a class your child wanted to participate in? Don’t worry classes will be offered multiple times throughout the year and can be taken in any order.
Career Focus: Veterinary Science and Pet Care
Calling all future vets! As a direct response to an ever-growing interest in our veterinary programming, our team wanted to create an all-new lineup. Topics vastly range from general pet care to more advanced scientific aspects of the veterinary profession. Each workshop will include a lesson, an opportunity to give back to our animals with a service-learning component, and of course, animal time!
Career Focus: Art, Communications, and Technology
Welcome to our innovative Arts, Technology, and Communication Career Focus, where creativity happens, and compassion for animals takes center stage! These unique opportunities allow students to develop their talents while making a difference in the lives of animals. Under this expansive career focus, students will have the ability to explore various mediums and channels, while honing their skills and fostering their love for the arts.

Environmental science is one of the leading fields for career growth. Why? Simple- we love our planet and its inhabitants! That may sound like a typical spiel, this is not your typical environmental workshop. Join us as we inspire future animal advocates through unique critter encounters and critical thinking activities. Children will discover ways they can protect the things we love the most; by taking action and inspiring change!
