Dear Friends,
With my first CEO message of 2025, I’d like to extend a massive thank you for a record-breaking year in 2024!
While there is no end to the accomplishments your Charleston Animal Society achieved in 2024, I’d like to highlight the following achievements across the three core arms of our mission.
ENDING UNNECESSARY EUTHANASIA
Charleston Animal Society has made significant strides in ending unnecessary euthanasia statewide through our No Kill South Carolina 2024 Initiative’s leadership in PickMe! SC, the largest statewide adoption event for dogs and cats in the nation. This year we brought together shelters and rescues in each county in the state, resulting in a record 2,526 cat and dog adoptions statewide! Stay tuned for an exciting announcement from the No Kill South Carolina team coming soon.
ENDING OVERPOPULATION OF DOGS & CATS
The cornerstone of ending animal overpopulation has always been through providing spay/neuter surgeries for the community. This year the Sam Greer Spay/Neuter Clinic set a new record of 15,406 spay/neuter surgeries! This accomplishment alone will prevent countless of unplanned litters from contributing to the animal overpopulation crisis in our state.
ENDING ANIMAL CRUELTY
Since our organization’s inception, our mission has always been the same: the prevention of cruelty to animals. 150 years later and it hasn’t changed. Cruelty prevention starts with humane education, and last year our nationally recognized Education Program taught 34,384 compassion lessons to 11,671 students to ensure a future free from animal cruelty.
