Fill your heart and home with the love

of a shelter pet

We are the Lowcountry's largest full access animal shelter, providing a warm bed, food, veterinary care and a gentle touch for all the lost stray and unwanted animals in our community. We never turn an animal away. The Charleston Animal Society is one of the oldest Humane Societies in the United States, sheltering over 150,000 animals over the last 100 years, performing countless surgeries and life saving procedures and matching thousands of animals and new families each year. Our society is over 130 years old and has a rich history in Charleston.  Our spacious shelter helps to make magic happen between people and pets 7-days a week! Within these pages you will find pictures of pets for adoption, stories of survival and ways you can help. Start your journey here to bring hope to homeless animals and to create a lifetime of memories.  Your Soul Pet Awaits

Three Reasons to Give

We need your support to continue our mission of providing food, shelter, medical care, and plenty of TLC to nearly 11,000 animals each year.
  • The  Charleston Animal Society is Charleston County's only open-access shelter that never turns any animal away.
  • Our caring medical staff performs nearly 7,000 surgeries each year in our state-of-the-art Spay & Neuter Clinic.
  • We are the premiere organization in the Lowcountry providing care for homeless, abused and neglected animals.
